I was asked by Sister Christina from my parish Church to draw up a logo for an up-coming fund-raising event. It is to depict St. Josephine Bakhita, the saint of whom our church is named. Sister Christina asked me to have her sit on a chair making a string of beads. I was given a book of Mother Bakhita's life story to reference from. The door in the back came as a last second stroke of genius. I was originally just going to put a random swooshy curved line for stylistic purposes but the door idea came to me suddenly. In her life, St. Josephine Bakhita was a door-keeper or guard. I incorporated that aspect of her life into this piece rather subtly. All in all, I think this turned out nicely. =)

Alright so I joined this caricature group on FB called Caricaturama Showdown 3000 that has a weekly contest wherein the winner chooses a celebrity to caricature for the following week. It seemed like a fun little thing that'll help keep busy as well as work on my caricature skills. This week's topic is David Bowie. Can you tell it's him? hehe. It's inspired by his look from Labyrinth, the movie.

So I was commissioned to do a caricature as a birthday present to my friend's dad. I had to make do with my very minimal supplies because I don't really do stuff like this very often (more like NEVER) on paper. I ended up drawing it out on watercolour paper and turned my room upside down looking for pencil crayons i can use to colour it. Anyway, i think it turned out alright. Mind you, the picture was dark and i had to pimp up the contrast and colours a bit on PS so this pic actually looks better than the original piece.

I've been inspired by our recent drawing session at Dr. Sketchy's in Ottawa. The theme of the night was Burlesque and having been new to the experience, I found it fascinating. I found it very theatrical and artistic apart from its intended purpose to titillate audiences. In the spirit of Burlesque, I decided to paint this little thing. Just playing around with digital painting some more. I've got a long way to go in terms of improvement but i think I'm making strides. I hope you enjoy this. It was fun to paint it. =)

I finally found a job! I'm working as a layout artist at Big Soul Productions' "By The Rapids" Animation Dept. It was where I did my internship 2 yrs. ago. It's really fun there and the studio environment is so chill. I'm really liking everything so far so I'm happy. =)

I'm still trying to get used to drawing everything on Sketchbook Pro. It's kinda tough with a tablet so it's taking longer than i want to draw something. Nevertheless, i really like how this program can emulate the sketchiness of traditional pencil and paper!

Just got the program after many years of hearing about it and thought I'd give it a try. I like the feel of the different pen tools you can use and the quality of lines you get. I find it very user friendly and simple as pie to figure out. It's only slightly harder than drawing in an actual physical sketchbook. Definitely different from the Flash and Photoshop proper but very very fun to use. I'm liking it alot!

So i decided to not care and just scan a few pages from my sketchbook showing both working designs and lots of failed ones. Let's keep it on the real...i don't care if people see my "crappy sketches" as well and who knows, it might help some people figure out what design decisions work and what don't. I figured I'd show my thought process as to how i go about designing characters. What do I have to be ashamed about right? I'm owning up to my failures as well as successes!

This last one was a drive-by memory sketch. I took mental notes of the scene while i was stopped at a red light and drew it up when i got home.

On another note, how friggin crazy are the Raptors playing lately, right? I smell an Atlantic Division title part 2 coming.......i hope.

Some Magazine I found at school drew a metaphorical picture expressing my current state at this time of the year! I like how the guy in the back looming over me with the yellow eyes, red pupils, grey skin reminiscent of my film character serves as a metaphor for my film and how it's overwhelming me. It totally captured the essence of my life at the moment! MADD kudos to the artist! He even got the bags under my eyes right and everything.....

So school's back in session as you all may know. This year i really wanna get focused and come up with a really good story for my film. I got an idea jumpin' around in the ol' noggin all thanks to that random guy i talked to at the bus stop. Hopefully i'll have some concept stuff to show in the weeks to come. Also, I wanna do well in Life Drawing, not to satisfy my instructor or anything, but to really hone the skills needed in order to pursue my dream career as a character designer. I just wanna work hard to make this year a memorable one and an educational one.

So I've been pretty busy this summer so I haven't updated. Actually I have alot of things i could theoretically put up but i've been pre-occupied with other non-art related things so they're kinda pushed aside for now.

Internship hooray!

So I'm into the 3rd week of my Internship at Big Soul Productions and I am glad to say that I love it! The whole workplace environment is so chill and the people i work with are friggin hilarious! So this is what it feels like to get paid for doing something you love...it's HAXX! I'm not at liberty to discuss anything about the show we're working on because it hasn't been released yet but all i can say is don't let the company website fool you.....this show has MAJOR potential! I work with the writer and he has some pretty good storylines and a good sense of humour. I hope this show gets picked up for a 2nd season.

Man, I love working downtown. The upside of living in a metropolitan city is that it's teeming with weird lookin' people. As an artist, I feel the urge to represent them as a drawing on paper...long story short, i've been doing alot of cafe drawings. I've prettied up a few of them and am posting them up for your perusal. So here they are! More will come soon...

OMG the Hellish 3rd Year of Sheridan Animation has finally ended! Time flew by so fast yet it seemed like eternity at the same time. I can't believe we actually got through it. As a 2nd Year student last year, I remember going to the 3rd year screening and coming out petrified of what's to come the following year. I was like, "HOOOLY SHIT, I AM SCARED FOR NEXT YEAR! We are not prepared for 3rd year at all!!" Fast forward a year and I'm back in the same room watching my own 3rd year film. It seemed like such a blur...I can't even recall what happened this year and how the hell i got through it all. But that's the most important thing...the fact that I DID get through it and i'm now a little better, a little wiser. Now I'm just looking forward to the Internships this summer and 4th year.

Anyways enough of the mushy shtuff! Let's get to some art!
